In the Middle Ages, the second most important urban communication. Its lower portion used to be a Jewish quarter from 1411 until 1550 after the burghers had successfully pressed Emperor Ferdinand I to decree a ban on Jewish presence in the town.

St. Jacob’s Church - legend has it that this, the city´s oldest monastery, was founded in 1233 after the advent of Franciscan monks (also called Minorites or friars Minor or mendicant friars). It used to stand near the walls.
